Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister meets with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov has met with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammed Haneef Atmar, in Kabul.

The parties discussed the measures taken by the governments of both states to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection and mitigate the negative impact of restrictive measures on sustainable development of various sectors of the economy. In this context, the Uzbek side expressed its commitment to further provide comprehensive assistance to the Afghan people in eliminating the consequences of the pandemic.
 
The prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in transport and logistics sector, which is one of the key factors stimulating the development of trade-economic relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, were highly appreciated.
 
The parties reached an agreement on establishment of a joint coordination working group on transport issues at the level of heads of relevant structures and holding its first meeting via videoconference in November this year.
 
A number of practical aspects of implementation of joint projects and initiatives in energy and education were also considered, on which mutually acceptable solutions were developed and further actions were determined.
 
Following the talks, the Afghan side was expressed gratitude for the high level hospitality provided to Uzbekistan delegation during the visit. Mutual agreement was reached on enhancing interaction within the framework of the directions outlined at the meeting.
