Uzbekistan delegation takes part in ESCAP session

BANGKOK, October 21. /“Dunyo” IA/. Yesterday, the third session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development kicked off, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The session is attended by the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development Elliott Harris, the finance ministers of Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Bhutan, as well as more than 100 representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of the Asia-Pacific region.

The conference agenda includes inclusive and sustainable economic recovery, strengthening innovative and digital finance strategies to support sustainable development goals and other pressing issues.

The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to ESCAP Fakhriddin Sultanov emphasized the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to make the eradication of poverty and the fight against poverty as one of the main topics of the next session of the UN General Assembly and on the systematic work carried out in the country in the post-pandemic period to ensure macroeconomic stability and positive economic growth and development of human capital for social protection.

In turn, the ESCAP member countries noted the work carried out to reduce poverty in Uzbekistan and expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Government of Uzbekistan in the implementation of initiatives announced in the international arena.
