Uzbekistan and OIC strengthen cooperation in the field of human rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Independent Permanent Commission on Human Rights under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 

The signing took place on 24 May 2022 in Jeddah as part of an international seminar on the topic "The role of national human rights institutions in the protection and promotion of human rights in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation".

This seminar was organized during the 19th permanent session of the Independent Standing Commission on Human Rights (IPHRC) under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), taking place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on May 22-26.

Uzbekistan is represented at the session of the NCCHR OIC by a delegation led by the First Deputy Director of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) Mirzatillo Tillaboev.

The Memorandum was signed by the Chairman of the NCCHR OIC Haci Ali Acikgul, and the First Deputy Director of the NCHR Mirzatillo Tillaboev.

The parties agreed within the framework of this Memorandum to hold regular consultations to discuss issues of mutual interest, organize joint events, programs and projects in the field of human rights.

Haci Ali Acikgul, Chairman of the OIC Commission on Human Rights, said that the Memorandum will serve the development of human rights for many years, and is also the best mechanism for cooperation and an example for the national human rights institutions of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

It should also be noted that during the 19th session of the OIC NHRC, the delegation of Uzbekistan made a report on the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy and ongoing reforms in the country, including new laws in the field of human rights, the country's experience in the field of human rights education.

The participants of the session were informed about the goals and objectives in the field of human rights set out in the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

The Independent Permanent Commission on Human Rights at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has also shown interest in the Global Forum on Human Rights Education to be held in Tashkent this October.
