Trilateral format “Uzbekistan – United States – Afghanistan” Subcommittee on Policy meeting

The first meeting of the Subcommittee on Policy of the trilateral format “Uzbekistan – United States – Afghanistan” has been held via videoconference.

The delegations were led by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Afghanistan Nancy Jackson, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mirwais Naab.
 
At the event, issues of establishing peace in Afghanistan and the role of Uzbekistan in this process, strengthening the political dialogue between the parties, expanding cooperation in the field of human rights, religious freedom, and human trafficking were discussed.
 
The importance of building up bilateral trade and economic ties, accelerating the implementation of transport, communication, infrastructure and investment projects, promoting the early recovery of the Afghan economy was noted.
 
The parties emphasized the need for developing and implementing a Comprehensive Peace Program for Afghanistan, which should be prepared based on consolidated regional and global approaches. In this regard, the conceptual significance of the Tashkent Declaration, adopted at the International Conference on Afghanistan in March 2018 in the capital of Uzbekistan, was once again stated.
 
Participants of the meeting welcomed the decision to hold the first round of inter-Afghan talks in Doha (Qatar). The Uzbek side expressed its readiness to organize one of the subsequent rounds of negotiations in Samarkand.
