Uzbekistan, South Korea enhance collaboration in pilgrimage tourism

SEOUL, January 18. /Dunyo IA/. On January 14, Seoul hosted a meeting between representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan and South Korea Buddhist Organization Jogye and CEO of Anytime Tour travel agency Shim Eui-boon, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

Issues of organizing trips of South Korean Buddhists to historical monuments of Uzbekistan located in Surkhandarya region and other regions of the country were discussed at the meeting.

The South Korean side was informed about fundamental measures taken in recent years to develop Uzbekistan’s tourism industry. Surkhandarya region’s tourism potential, where there are many historical monuments related to the history of the early development and spread of Buddhism along the Great Silk Road, was also noted. They were informed about ancient Buddhist monuments, such as Kara-Tepa monastery, Fayaz-Tepa and Dalvarzin-Tepa temples.

The emergence and development of Buddhism in Uzbekistan were presented to South Korean Buddhist organization.

The prospects of increasing the tourist flow from Korea to Uzbekistan, taking into account the large-scale reforms in the tourism sector carried out in recent years, aimed at developing the tourism infrastructure, including improving transport, hotel services, catering facilities, and reconstructing national attractions were also noted.

The Korean side expressed its intention to contribute to the intensification of cooperation between the two countries in tourism.
