The 18th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held on December 6, 2023, was very successful for Uzbekistan: three nominations submitted by the country were included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

One of them – “Uzbekistan Ceramics Art” – received the highest rating from the evaluation commission, which indicates the effectiveness of the work carried out by the Uzbek side in compiling the nomination package and deep knowledge of the history of the craft.

Two other nominations, submitted jointly by Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, and Iran, are “The Art of Naqqoshlik” and “Iftar and its Socio-Cultural Traditions”.

Now Uzbekistan can be proud of 15 intangible cultural heritage elements under the protection of UNESCO, and therefore valuable for civilization. According to the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, this is essential in promoting and protecting the country’s rich cultural heritage internationally.
