At the opening ceremony, sports delegations from 46 participating countries carried the flags of their countries around the sports arena.
The Games are attended by 1443 student-athletes studying in more than 540 higher education institutions of the world. Athletes will compete in 12 sports, such as alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle, hockey, Nordic combined, short track, ski jumping, snowboarding, and speed skating. The honor of Uzbekistan in three types of sports will be defended by 13 student-athletes. Today, preliminary qualifying competitions will be held in several sports, including snowboarding and alpine skiing with the participation of Uzbekistan representatives.
The Games will run until January 22. 86 sets of medals will be played.
