LONDON, April 20. /“Dunyo” IA/. “The Silk Road: A Living History” open-air exhibition has kicked off in London’s Granary Square, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
Comprised of over 160 photographs, the exhibition invites the viewer to take a journey from London to Beijing, encountering many of the people, places and cultures along the Great Silk Road.
The author of the photography exhibition is Christopher Wilton-Steer. It documents Wilton-Steer’s journey along the historic trade route undertaken in 2019. Over a period of four months, he traveled 40,000 km overland by car, bus, train, ferry, horse and camel from London to Beijing traversing sixteen countries.
Uzbekistan is presented by photographs of architectural monuments, elements of architecture and decorative painting in Samarkand (Bibi-Khanum mosque, Tilla-Kari and Sherdor madrasahs) and Khiva (Tash-Khauli palace complex). Some photographs are devoted to handicrafts – woodcarving, painting on ceramics, textiles, including the national costume.
The exposition, which will run until mid-June this year, is organized with the support of the Aga Khan Foundation, the London City Hall of King’s Cross and the tour operator Wild Frontiers. The exhibition is free to the public.
