/«Dunyo» IA/. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the activities of the Biochemical Institute of Samarkand State University, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
According to the press service of the Head of state, more than 25 thousand students are studying at the University. The Institute of Agrobiotechnologies and Food Security, the Institute of Engineering Physics, the Research Institute of Turkology, and the Biochemical Institute are organized in the structure of the University.
The Biochemical Institute was established this year based on the Faculties of Biology and Chemistry of the University. After large-scale construction activities, seven new buildings were erected for the institute. These are 2 academic buildings with over a thousand seats, a meeting room, a greenhouse, a vivarium, a laboratory for biological research, a herbarium – a laboratory for botanical research, and a student canteen.
Notably, researchers in both fields of science can conduct research in one place. This brings the work on the mutual integration of biological and chemical innovations to a new level.
The Head of state examined conditions in classrooms, greenhouses, and scientific laboratories and talked to professors and teachers.
The researchers informed about plans to create new types of selective anticancer drugs based on the chemical transformation of oncological drugs.
The President gave instructions on the organization of foreign internships for the Institute’s employees, the development of pharmaceutical and chemical products, and the creation of new varieties of cotton, grapes, and wheat.
Today, the Biochemical Institute trains 2.8 thousand students in 8 areas of education. In general, the University has 12 scientific and 67 educational laboratories.
