The number of initiatives put forward by Uzbekistan in the SCO reaches 54

11.09.2022 14:51

This has been announced by Bakhromjon Sotiboldiyev, Head of the Department of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The expert noted that so far Uzbekistan has chaired the SCO three times – in 2005-2006, 2009-2010 and 2015-2016.

“During these years, Uzbekistan has put forward 54 initiatives, most of them have been put into practice. For example, the establishment of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO is a proposal of Uzbekistan, and this structure operates in Tashkent.

Another important initiative became the development of a mechanism for the admission of new members to the SCO. After that, India and Pakistan became members of the Organization. Iran is currently at the stage of becoming a full member of the SCO.

It should be noted that if the membership of India and Pakistan has opened the doors to South Asia for the Organization, then the entry of Iran will open the doors to the Middle East.

Uzbekistan's initiatives after 2017 contribute to the development of cooperation not only in security issues, but also in the economic, transport-logistics, cultural-humanitarian, and tourism spheres”, the expert noted.
