Tashkent hosts SCO Women’s Forum

Tashkent hosted the Fourth SCO Women's Forum within the framework of the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The forum was opened by the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva. She emphasized that Uzbekistan’s open, pragmatic and constructive foreign policy strategy has been vividly reflected in the activities of the SCO over the past five-six years.

“Within the framework of the organization, Uzbekistan puts forward many relevant proposals that correspond to the priority areas of socio-economic development of the region”, Tanzila Narbayeva noted.

In his video message, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming cordially welcomed all participants of the event and stressed that the SCO Women’s Forum plays an important role in the development of the Organization as an authoritative participant in international cooperation and makes a great contribution to promoting the ideals of gender equality.

During the five panel sessions, delegates exchanged views on such current issues as institutions for strengthening the role of women in the SCO countries, improving interaction and cooperation on gender issues within the SCO, empowering women to develop entrepreneurship, the role of women in digitalization and the use of innovative technologies.

The event also included the First Conference of SCO Women Entrepreneurs, which will contribute to the formation of a dialogue platform and a pool of experts on women’s business cooperation, as well as the identification of promising areas for mutually beneficial cooperation of businesswomen of the Organization’s member countries.
