At the 18th Summer Asian Games, due from August 18 to September 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang, 232 of our athletes will compete for the victory in 30 sports.
The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan hosted official send-offs of athletes who will participate in these competitions.
Speakers at the event noted that in our country, constant attention is paid to the development of sports, the upbringing of the younger generation healthy and harmoniously developed. As a result a new generation of athletes is formed that can adequately uphold the honor of our country at the world and continental championships, the Olympic and Asian Games.
Uzbek athletes, regularly participating in the Asian Games since 1994, are rightfully among the strongest. This can be seen on the example of victorious performances of our athletes in these competitions. Representatives of our country, who participated for the first time in the 12th Asian Games in 1994 in the Japanese city of Hiroshima, won 11 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze medals, taking the fifth place among the teams of 42 countries in the team event. At the XIII Asian Games in 1998 in Thailand’s Bangkok, our athletes earned six gold, 23 silver and 15 bronze medals, and four years later, at the Asian Games in Busan, Republic of Korea, they secured 15 gold, 12 silver and 24 bronze medals. At the XV Summer Olympic Games, held in 2006 in the city of Doha, Qatar, our representatives brought to the team piggy bank 11 gold, 14 silver and bronze medals. At the XVI continental games held in the Chinese city of Guangzhou in 2010, they won 11 gold, 22 silver, 23 bronze, and at the XVII Summer Asian Games in 2014 in the city of Incheon, South Korea – 9 gold, 14 silver and 22 bronze medals – 45 medals in total.
Undoubtedly, at the XVIII Asian Games, representatives of Uzbekistan, defending the honor of our Motherland, will demonstrate to the full their skills, experience and potential to please many sports fans of our country, to meet the trust of our President and people.
“All the conditions for serious preparation for the Asian Games have been created,” said Nigina Abduraimova, winner of international tennis tournaments. “We, athletes, participate in physical, technical and tactical trainings six times a week. With all our strength we will try to take pride of place in the XVIII Summer Asian Games and raise the flag of our Motherland highly.”
The ceremony of presenting the new clothes of the sports delegation of Uzbekistan was held. This sports equipment is provided by the PRES-JOG brand of the Chinese company QIERTE Co. Ltd.
At the event, the Asian boxing champion, prize-winner of the Asian Games, winner of many international tournaments Isroil Madrimov, wished good luck to everyone. He is named the standard-bearer at the opening ceremony of the XVIII Summer Asian Games.
