Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The first batch of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine was produced in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

The vaccine is produced at the facilities of the pharmaceutical company Jurabek Laboratories. Earlier it was reported that the enterprise will produce up to 2 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine per month.

RDIF organized a technological transfer process for the production of a vaccine in Uzbekistan. The validation lots of Sputnik V were sent to the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology for quality control. The positive results of the control will allow starting the release of commercial lots.

It is expected that the drug produced in Uzbekistan will be used to vaccinate the population of the country. It should be noted that Uzbekistan certified Sputnik V in February 2021.

The Sputnik V vaccine is built on a proven and well-studied human adenoviral vector platform and uses two different vectors for two vaccinations during vaccination, providing longer lasting immunity than vaccines using the same delivery mechanism for both vaccines.

RDIF General Director Kirill Dmitriev said that the Sputnik V vaccine is being successfully used in Uzbekistan to fight coronavirus infection. In his opinion, the localization of the drug, which has confirmed its high efficiency and safety during its use in various regions of the world, will significantly accelerate the vaccination of the country's population.

General Director of Jurabek Laboratories Munira Karieva said that the localization of production will increase the supply of the Sputnik V vaccine, which is in great demand today.
