UZBEKISTAN DELEGATION MEETS WITH SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE HAGUE CONFERENCE

On June 21, Uzbekistan delegation led by Deputy Minister of Justice Khudoyar Meliyev met with the Secretary-General of the organization, Christophe Bernasconi.

Christophe Bernasconi informed about the main activities of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, conditions proposed to participating countries. He welcomed the desire of Uzbekistan to join the HCCH and noted the strategic importance of the Central Asian region, in the center of which is Uzbekistan, which is one of the largest and most authoritative states in the region.

The parties discussed possible areas of cooperation, such as expert support for the development of private law in Uzbekistan, prospects for creating a joint Center for Private International Law on the basis of Tashkent State University of Law.

The Secretary-General also welcomed the focus of Uzbekistan on increasing the country’s investment potential. In his opinion, membership in the HCCH will contribute to strengthening the country’s rankings, as investors first of all study the mechanisms of the legal protection of their investments. Participation in international conventions of the HCCH can become an effective investment protection mechanism.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue mutual cooperation.
