Issues of enhancing collaboration with Uzbekistan discussed in the Hellenic Parliament

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Otabek Akbarov met with representatives of the Parliamentary Friendship Group “Greece – Uzbekistan”, in Athens.

The Ambassador briefed the deputies on the large-scale reforms being carried out in the political, economic and social spheres of Uzbekistan. In this regard, detailed information was provided on the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

It was noted that the important principles of the foreign policy pursued by the leadership of the country, especially in Central Asia, were created based on friendship, good neighborliness, open and trusting relations. The main attention was paid to the constitutional reforms carried out in Uzbekistan. Information was provided on the importance, content and goals of this process.

Member of the Hellenic Parliament, Secretary of Greece – Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship Group Georgios Arvanitidis welcomed the appointment of Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to Greece and noted that this step will create new and greater opportunities for the development of cooperation between the two countries. Based on the history and nature of relations with Uzbekistan, as well as taking into account the positive image of the country in Greece, the deputy expressed confidence that Greece would soon raise its diplomatic authority in Tashkent to a new level.

The Greek side expressed readiness to develop relations through international structures and organizations, including the European Union, as well as interest in enhancing collaboration in multilateral and bilateral formats.
