Shakhnoza Umarova: UzWaterAware remains an effective project in hydroecological safety

14.10.2020 09:18

A number of events are being held in Tashkent and regions of Uzbekistan within the framework of UzWaterAware project, implemented by the branch of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia in Uzbekistan. Completion of the four-year project, supported by the European Union, is scheduled for November this year.

Head of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia in Uzbekistan, Shakhnoza Umarova, shared her opinion on eco-lessons conducted within the framework of this project in Surkhandarya region’s Termez city, and dedicated to water saving technologies.

– In recent years, the issue of the efficiency of water resources use in Uzbekistan has reached the political level, – says Sh. Umarova.

Implementation of the resolution of the Head of the state “On measures to further improve the water management system” of October 9, 2019 contributes to the expansion of the scale of work in this direction, as well as serves as an important guide to international organizations and NGOs for active participation in this process.

UzWaterAware project as part of the EU Program “Sustainable Water Resources Management in rural areas in Uzbekistan” is consonant with the activities carried out in Uzbekistan in this sphere.

The Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the national partner of the project. We managed to organize many events in the city of Tashkent and the country’s regions. It is also worth noting that in cooperation with government agencies, NGOs and the media, large-scale activities were carried out among the population related to hydroecological problems in the country.

In particular, eco-lessons were organized in the city of Tashkent, the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions. On October 14-16, such lessons are being held in Khorezm region. The goal of conducting eco-lessons in partnership with local organizations is to inform the population about water saving technologies and improve environmental awareness.

We hope that the educational materials, published within the framework of the project, a number of hydroecological events held by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia in Uzbekistan during the four-year activity of the UzWaterAware project will serve to promote environmental education among the population.
