23.09.2020 11:22

Five million saffron (crocus) bulbs were sent from the Italian city of Brescia to Uzbekistan.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Italy, a caravan of several trucks with a cargo of 64.5 tons must overcome 6,800 kilometers and cross Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Bulbs of the highest grade of this unique plant sent to Uzbekistan have been created by Italian breeders for centuries. They are planned to be planted on the hills of Jizzakh’s Bakhmal district.

The total cost of the investment project is 34.4 million euros. Most of the investment will be directed towards the purchase and supply of high quality saffron bulbs. The project is expected to create about 200 permanent and 7,000 seasonal jobs for the local population.
