Representatives of Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Latvia visit Liepaja

Representatives of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Latvia, at the invitation of the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Uldis Reimanis, visited Liepaja to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Meetings were held with the mayor of Liepaja Janis Vilnitis, other officials, representatives of business circles. In particular, they visited Liepaja Special Economic Zone, held negotiations with top managers of iCotton, specializing in advanced cotton processing and production of hygiene and cosmetology products, familiarization with the state of Liepaja Trans Storage warehouses.
 
At the meeting held at the City Hall, the sides paid attention to issues of interaction in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. The possibilities of establishing cooperation between the higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and the Liepaja University, which specializes in training personnel in social sciences, including pedagogy, art history, as well as engineering and mechanics, were considered.
 
The parties exchanged experience on countering the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 and in combating its negative social and economic consequences.
 
Representatives of the diplomatic mission also examined in detail the activity of Liepaja Special Economic Zone and the Port of Liepaja, which has the largest terminal in the Baltic Sea.
 
Following the meeting, a number of agreements were reached on expanding the range of exports from Uzbekistan to Latvia.
