Radioecological monitoring of transboundary territories: Problems and their solutions

Representatives of the State Committee for Industrial Safety, the Ministry of Health and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) discussed this theme via videoconference.

The event was attended by representatives of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, employees of TRANSPOND project, experts in emergency situations, environmental protection and ensuring radiation safety of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
 
In the joint project TRANSPOND – Transboundary Monitoring and Information System for Radioactive Contamination in the Event of Natural Hazards, German, Kyrgyz and Uzbek partners are developing a joint environmental information system as well as coordinated emergency instructions for the riparian states. The measures are intended to provide reliable information on radioactive pollution of the river system, improved information exchange between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and effective joint action in the event of a strong, sudden release of radioactive material into the river system.
 
Issues of waste generated, resulting in harm to humans, as well as the implementation of the TRANSPOND project were discussed.
