Poll: 88 percent of respondents are aware of constitutional reforms

The Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr” studied the public opinion regarding the introduction of amendments and additions to the Constitution, the need to improve it in accordance with the requirements of the time, and the creation of a legal framework for a new stage in the development of the country.

The data will serve to increase the effectiveness of constitutional reforms, to introduce qualitatively new, relevant and large-scale changes to the current Constitution that meet the goals of sustainable development of New Uzbekistan and serve to protect the rights and freedoms of Uzbekistan generations.

As the study showed, 88 percent of the respondents are generally aware of the ongoing process of collecting proposals for amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This indicates the involvement of the general public in this political process taking place in the country, a sense of ownership and responsibility of citizens for the fate of the state.

The majority of respondents – 83 percent – support constitutional reforms and recognize the need to improve the Basic Law in today’s realities.

According to the results of the survey, 76 percent of respondents are aware of the activities of the Constitutional Commission.

Along with this, according to the data received, 47.2 percent of respondents consider it important for them to take the opportunity to participate in the process of improving the Constitution, while 24.1 percent of citizens have already made their proposals and additions to the current Constitution.

An analysis of the public opinion poll showed that, according to the respondents, the most pressing issues that should be reflected in the Constitution are the improvement of the public administration system, strengthening the provision of fundamental human rights and freedoms, strengthening the social protection of needy segments of the population (persons with disabilities, children, left without parental care, women, the elderly and pensioners who have lost their breadwinner), as well as increasing the role of young people in the life of the state and society.

The study also showed that protecting the environment and ensuring environmental rights are among the important tasks. In addition, the respondents also mentioned such issues as the formation and strengthening of universal, national and family values, strengthening the protection of private property and ensuring the quality of education.
