UZBEKISTAN, JAPAN EXPAND INTER-PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safayev visited Japan.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tokyo, during the visit, meetings were held with the leadership of the House of Councilors and the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Japan, a group of deputies who recently visited Uzbekistan. Meetings were also held in the office of the Prime Minister, ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy, Trade and Industry, the Japan Institute of International Affairs, and the Japan National Press Club. In addition, the delegation visited Nagoya, where meetings were held with the governor of Aichi Prefecture, the mayor of Nagoya, the Speaker of the city parliament and the President of Nagoya University.

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan discussed in detail with Japanese partners the issues of strengthening and expanding the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Main attention was paid to qualitative organization and conduction at the highest level of the upcoming visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan.

The state and prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed at the meetings with the leaders of the upper and lower houses of Japan’s Parliament.

An agreement was reached on further expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation with Japan, including organization of a roundtable discussion in the Parliament of Japan, and holding the next meeting of bilateral Inter-Parliamentary Forum next year.

At the meetings in the office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, mutual interest was noted in deepening Uzbekistan – Japan cooperation in a wide range of areas.

Japanese partners emphasized that Tokyo is thoroughly preparing for the visit of the President of Uzbekistan, which will undoubtedly become an important event in the history of bilateral cooperation, will lay a solid foundation for bringing relations to a new level.
