Uzbekistan delegation takes part in Women Speakers of Parliament Summit

On August 17-18, 2020, the 13th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament of the Member States of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was held.

The event, organized in cooperation with the UN via videoconference, along with women leaders from 57 countries, was for the first time attended by Uzbekistan delegation led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva.
 
The purpose of the event was to discuss and identify actions necessary to enhance equality between men and women, comprehensive support for women, especially during and after the pandemic.
 
The summit participants informed about the measures taken in their countries to mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic, especially for women, and their full support.
 
Participants of the summit were informed about the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in gender equality. The position of Uzbekistan on strengthening equality between men and women, measures stipulated by the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was also voiced.
 
Climate change, the economic empowerment of women and the availability of financial resources were also considered during the two-day forum leading up to the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (5WCSP) to be held on 19-20 August 2020.
