UZBEKISTAN DELEGATION STUDIES UNITED STATES’ POTATO GROWING TECHNOLOGY

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, Uzbekistan delegation led by the Chairman of Potato Producers Association Elyor Tashpulatov visits Wisconsin.

The delegation, which included representatives of Uzbekistan Research Institute of Vegetable, Melon Crops and Potato, the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics, LLC Usimliklar tekhnologiyasi, LLC Agrover and others plans to study best practices in potato cultivation, discuss prospects for cooperation with seed companies and United States farms, as well as take part in the annual exhibition of Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association, to hold meetings with representatives of the University of Wisconsin and the United States Potato Genebank.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation was received by the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Brad Pfaff.

The American side, highly appreciating the reforms undertaken in Uzbekistan, expressed full readiness for intensifying cooperation between the state and Uzbekistan. Agreement was reached on organizing the visit of Wisconsin delegation to Uzbekistan to become familiar with the state of potato growing development.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the delegation met with Russel Wysocki, the President of Wysocki Farms. A tour on production capacity of the company was organized, the entire cycle of processing and packaging potatoes was shown.

Wysocki Family of Companies, a second generation family farm that was established in 1953, is a category leader and key grower/shipper of year-round potatoes and onions. The company occupies 10% of the total United States market.

The delegation visited Heartland Farms innovative company, which was established in 1873. It is a fifth generation irrigated potato and vegetable farm operating in five counties of Wisconsin. The Heartland Farms are currently farming approximately 27,000 irrigated acres and have been experiencing substantial growth. The company produces many different types of chipping potatoes.
