UZBEKISTAN DELEGATION ATTENDS WINTER SESSION OF THE OSCE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

Uzbekistan delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Svetlana Artykova attended Winter Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in Vienna.

The event was attended by more than 300 parliamentarians from 57 member-states and 11 OSCE cooperation partners, as well as representatives of organization’s institutions.

President of the National Council of Austria Wolfgang Sobоtka, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčak, OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger and others delivered speeches at the event.

Head of Uzbekistan delegation highlighted the large-scale socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, democratic reforms and ensuring people’s rights and freedoms, strengthening the role of parliament in society, as well as active regional policy and promotion of international agenda in security and sustainable development.

Reports and speeches of representatives of parliaments of OSCE PA member-states were heard, issues related to politics and security, economy and environment, human rights and humanitarian sphere in the OSCE area were discussed. 

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uzbekistan delegation also held a number of bilateral meetings, in particular with the President of the Federal Council of Austria (Senate) Ingo Appe, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier, OSCE PA Special Representative on Central Asia Roman Haider and other leaders of OSCE institutions, during which prospects for development of cooperation at the parliamentary level were considered. 

The next annual Summer Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will be held on July 4-8, 2019, in Luxemburg.
