TASHKENT HOSTED UZBEKISTAN – LITHUANIA POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS

On December 13, the 7th round of political consultations between the delegations of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Lithuania was held in Tashkent.

The delegations led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations, issues of interaction in various multilateral formats, including on Uzbekistan – European Union, as well as exchanged views on current international and regional issues.

Priority areas of further development of Uzbekistan – Lithuania dialogue in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, as well as in the field of tourist exchanges, were considered.

The parties confirmed their mutual interest in building relations on a long-term and mutually beneficial basis in all areas of mutual interest.

At the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics in mutual trade. In particular, for 10 months of the current year, the trade turnover increased by 10% compared to the same period in 2017. At the same time, as it was emphasized, the potential has not been exhausted, especially in such sectors of the economy as innovation, transport and logistics, food and pharmaceutical industries, the agricultural sector and others.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, views were exchanged on the schedule of meetings in 2019 of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, the Joint Working Group in Agriculture, and other events.

The Uzbek side invited representatives of Lithuania to attend the upcoming international conference next year on “Central Asia: New opportunities and prospects for regional cooperation”, in Tashkent.

Ambassador of Lithuania Remigijus Motuzas attended the consultations.
