PRESIDENT CHAIRS SECURITY COUNCIL MEETING

On August 15, 2019, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired an expanded meeting of the Security Council on the main results of the country’s foreign policy and foreign economic activity and priorities for the future.

The meeting was attended by the heads of chambers of the Oliy Majlis, Administration of the President, the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Security Service, the National Guard, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the ministries of foreign affairs, investments and foreign trade, defense, internal affairs, the SSS Border Guard, the State Committee for Defense Industry, the National Human Rights Centre, as well as the Secretary of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Practical results of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with foreign partners, current trends of the global agenda, as well as contemporary challenges and threats to stability and security in the world and the Central Asian region were considered at the meeting. Main tasks of foreign policy and foreign economic activity for the coming years were determined.

It was noted that due to policy of openness and trust pursued by Uzbekistan, a completely new political atmosphere of good neighborliness and mutual understanding has been formed in Central Asia. A strategic partnership has been established with all countries of the region.

In addition, as a result of events at the highest level, cooperation with countries with which traditionally friendly relations have been established, including Russia, China, the United States, South Korea, Turkey, Germany, France, and the countries of the Asian continent, has been significantly strengthened.

The steady growth of the trade turnover with major foreign economic partners, successful implementation of cooperation projects in Central Asia, intensification of interregional cooperation was noted with satisfaction.

The need was emphasized for ensuring control over the timely and qualitative implementation of agreements reached in trade-economic and investment spheres, including from the parliament.

Special attention was paid to participation of Uzbekistan in the activities of authoritative international organizations such as the UN, SCO, CIS, OIC, tasks were identified on promoting the initiatives of the country within these structures.

At the meeting, implemented activities were critically evaluated and specific instructions were given to the heads of responsible ministries and agencies for further building a mutually beneficial dialogue with partner states, as well as ensuring national interests within the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
