MEETING WITH THE UN UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Austria Sherzod Asadov presented his credentials to the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Yury Fedotov as Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna.

Yury Fedotov highly appreciated the dynamically developing cooperation of Uzbekistan with the UN and its structures. UNODC considers Uzbekistan a very important partner and positively assesses changes in socio-political and socio-economic spheres under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which open up new horizons for deepening interaction.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the parties emphasized their interest in continuing joint effective activities on reducing the consumption and trafficking of drugs, the fight against organized crime and international terrorism.

Activity and efforts of Uzbekistan on assisting in ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan, development of trade-economic opportunities of this country were noted with satisfaction.

In this context, holding the 11th MOU meeting on Regional Drug Control Cooperation in April this year will become one of the important joint activities of this year for expanding capabilities of the region’s countries in supporting and further developing the dialogue and improving the interaction in this area.

Other issues on the agenda were also considered at the meeting.
