MEETING WITH SPECIAL ENVOY ON THE AFGHAN AFFAIRS OF CHINA FOREIGN MINISTRY

Beijing hosted the meeting of the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev with Special Envoy on the Afghan Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Deng Xijun.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, the sides exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and prospects for launching a peaceful intra-Afghan dialogue aimed at establishing a lasting and long-term peace in the country.

As it was noted, Uzbekistan and China are focusing on consolidation of efforts of the international community on resolving the long-standing conflict.

Prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two countries on Afghanistan, including the participation of China in the activities of the Educational Center for Training Afghanistan Citizens in Termez, implementation of other joint projects in various fields were discussed at the meeting.

Highly appreciating Uzbekistan’s efforts on implementing various projects in energy, transport, logistics and education, the Chinese side expressed its readiness to join the development of project for construction of Mazari-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar rail line. In this regard, Deng Xijun noted the importance of the project initiated by Uzbekistan for the entire region, development of its transport infrastructure with subsequent access to South Asian countries.

Issues that are planned to be included in the agenda of the upcoming SCO – Afghanistan Contact group meeting in Bishkek were also discussed at the meeting.
