Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Sardor Umurzakov has met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, in Islamabad.
According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, the parties exchanged views on the mechanisms of cooperation in trade, economic, transport and logistics spheres, as well as on the current measures to counter the spread of coronavirus infection and reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on the economies of the two countries.
Further steps were agreed for development of transport and communication links, which will facilitate access for producers of the two countries to promising export markets. The parties discussed the practical aspects of prospects for the implementation of projects for the construction of trans-Afghan railways, which could connect Uzbekistan and Pakistan in order to increase direct mutual freight traffic.
The possibilities for intensifying the cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, which will ensure greater rapprochement of people of the two countries through a comprehensive study and promotion of the common cultural and historical heritage were also discussed.
Prospects for attracting Pakistan to negotiations in the trilateral format “Afghanistan – Uzbekistan – United States” to discuss the agenda of regional interaction and opportunities for the implementation of joint infrastructure, energy, transport and logistics projects were considered.
