BRUSSELS HOSTS UZBEKISTAN – EU SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING

Brussels hosted the 15th meeting of Uzbekistan – EU Subcommittee on Justice, Internal Affairs, Human Rights and related issues.

Uzbekistan delegation consisting of representatives of the ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs and the National Human Rights Centre discussed with European colleagues the issues of cooperation in strengthening the rule of law, protecting human rights, freedom of assembly and association, words and beliefs.

The parties also discussed cooperation in the fight against the threats of terrorism, illegal migration, drug trafficking and organized crime. The EU welcomed participation of Uzbekistan in implementation of the CADAP 6 program. It was emphasized that CADAP continues to be the key EU program for reforming the systems of counteracting narcotic drugs in Central Asia.

The European side highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan on improving the efficiency of border management with neighboring countries. The EU’s readiness to assist in this matter was noted, including within the framework of BOMCA border management project.

An important agenda of the meeting was the preparation for the second round of negotiations on the Agreement on extended partnership and cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the European Union
