ABDULAZIZ KAMILOV MEETS WITH THE UN ASSISTANT SECRETARY-GENERAL

On July 22, 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov met with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, Mohamed Khaled Khiari, in New York.

The UN representative highly appreciated the recent dynamics of Uzbekistan’s cooperation within the organization, unprecedented and irreversible reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at comprehensive development of the country and strengthening good neighborly relations with Central Asian countries, which is an important factor of regional integration, ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

As it was emphasized, the policy of the Head of Uzbekistan on building good-neighborly relations in Central Asia is fully supported by the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, who has repeatedly spoken about this publicly.

Mohamed Khaled Khiari thanked the Uzbek side for actively promoting the peace process in Afghanistan.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, at the meeting, special attention was paid to participation of the UN and its structures in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan in December this year and the decision of the organization’s leadership on sending the UN mission to the country to assist in qualitative and impartial organization of the electoral process.
