In 2023, Samarkand, which is rightfully considered the “Tourist Gate of New Uzbekistan”, will become the capital of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly will be held here.
The guest service system in Samarkand is at a high level. There are guides and audio guides. In 2022, large-scale work was carried out to further improve the ensemble. Unique historical finds that were found during the restoration are presented in the exhibition “Samarkand in Historical Photographs” in the Tillaqori Madrasah. Sculptures in the composition “Teacher and Students” in the exhibition “History in Photographs”, operating in the Sherdor Madrasah, have been replaced with new wax realistic analogs. The sundial, temporarily installed by the Director of the Institute of Astronomy named after Mirzo Ulugbek of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, academician Shukhrat Egamberdiyev, was replaced by a metal clock and installed on a special marble column.
Current and major repairs in the Registan ensemble are carried out jointly with the Cultural Heritage Agency. 75 square meters of the street facades of the Ulugbek Madrasah, 60 square meters of the Sherdor Madrasah, as well as 60 square meters of tympanum and panels in the courtyard of the Sherdor Madrasah and 25 square meters of the tympanum in the courtyard of the Tillaqori madrasah were restored.
All measures contribute to the influx of tourists to this unique city.
