Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries

On August 18-19, Tashkent hosted the 17th meeting of the Secretaries of the SCO Security Councils as part of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the SCO.

The forum was attended by representatives of member and observer states, the Secretariat and the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure.

Secretary of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Viktor Makhmudov read out the greetings of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the participants of the meeting.

Views were exchanged on joint practical activities aimed at countering modern challenges and threats to security in the SCO region.

It was emphasized that the tasks of joint countering terrorism and extremism, drug and arms trafficking, and crimes using modern information and communication technologies remain the focus of close attention.

Certain aspects of the preparations for the Summit of the Heads of the SCO Member States in Samarkand in September this year were considered.

Following the event, the Meeting Minutes were signed and an Information Message was adopted, reflecting all the agreements reached.

As part of the event, meetings were held between representatives of Uzbekistan and delegations from several countries.

During the talks, an exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues related to regional security. Several aspects were considered regarding the current situation and prospects for cooperation in certain areas.

The participants of the meeting visited the “Yangi O’zbekiston” (New Uzbekistan) Park and laid wreaths at the Independence Monument, erected in honor of the 30th anniversary of independence.

Distinguished guests were informed about this complex.

The Secretaries of the Security Councils of the SCO Member States highly appreciated the work carried out in the New Uzbekistan Park.

Members of foreign delegations also visited Victory Park in the capital, where they laid wreaths at the Memorial Complex “Ode to Fortitude”. They were informed about the history of this park, built at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The guests noted that they received an indelible impression from the tour of Victory Park and the Museum of Glory.
