MEETING AT THE IAEA

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Austria, Permanent Representative to the OSCE Sherzod Asadov presented his credentials to the Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mikhail Chudakov as the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the IAEA.

During the conversation that took place after the ceremony, promising areas for development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IAEA were discussed.

Mikhail Chudakov noted that the IAEA is observing positive changes taking place in Uzbekistan and the ongoing dynamic reforms with interest. According to him, the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on construction of a nuclear power plant in Central Asia, the first in Central Asia, deserves special recognition.

He also noted active participation of Uzbekistan delegation in various activities of the IAEA and thanked for the effective organization in Tashkent in October-November this year of two thematic workshops aimed at improving the skills of Uzbekistan specialists.

The parties considered practical aspects of implementation of joint projects, including on training professional personnel in the sphere of nuclear energy.

Currently, the IAEA successfully implements 10 projects in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences, various ministries and agencies, and is working on 4 more projects proposed for implementation in 2020–2021 in cooperation with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences, Uzatom Agency, the Ministry of Health, Uzbekistan National University and Samarkand State University.

At the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on cooperation of Uzbekistan with leading nuclear research centers of the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada and other developed countries for establishing contacts in order to exchange experience.
