Iranian experts to be involved in Uzbekistan’s historical sites restoration

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov has met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hamid Nayyerabadi.

The parties reached an agreement on strengthening cooperation in tourism. Experience has been exchanged on mitigating the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry. Plans for priority measures to resume international travels, taking into account the improvement of the pandemic situation and restoration of direct flights between the countries, were discussed.
 
Another important issue of the negotiations was the implementation of joint projects for the preservation and restoration of objects of historical and cultural heritage in Uzbekistan, the exchange of experience and training specialists in this field, as well as promotion of common objects of intangible cultural heritage and elaboration of their inclusion in the UNESCO list, taking into account that history, culture, traditions and customs, cuisine of Uzbekistan and Iran people are close to each other.
 
Following the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to accelerate preparations for the signing of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Program in Tourism for 2020-2023 and the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in Culture and Arts.
 
In addition, in order to develop medical tourism, the Iranian side plans to create a modern Health Center in Samarkand region with involvement of specialists and technology from Iran.
