Kyrgyzstan supplies electricity to our country in order to improve irrigation and rational use of hydropower resources in Central Asia.

The energy sector has an important place in socio-economic development of Uzbekistan, ensuring the well-being of the population.

Meetings of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the heads of states of the region opened new prospects for the development of energy cooperation. In particular, within the framework of high-level dialogue between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, held on October 5 this year in Tashkent, an agreement was signed on supply of electricity from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan in 2017-2018.

According to the contract, it is envisaged to supply 550 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from December 2017 to March 2018. On December 15 of this year, Kyrgyzstan began supplying electricity to our country. So far, 3,7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity have been consumed, and its daily volume is increasing.

The energy system of Uzbekistan works in close relationship with the energy systems of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and other CIS countries. This process is carried out through lines with a voltage of 220, 500 kilovolts (kV). The small station “Lochin” in Fergana valley is connected to Kyrgyzstan energy system by a 500 kV line. There are seven 220-kilovolt and two 110-kilovolt interstate networks in the valley areas. In addition, 220 and 500 kV lines from Tashkent thermal power plant connect the power systems of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, ensuring their mutually agreed activity.

In the same way, the energy systems of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are interconnected. As a result, an energy ring is operating between Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, which allows to ensure optimal energy modes of operation.

At present, our country is developing international energy cooperation based on mutually beneficial economic relations. In particular, Uzbekistan is helping neighboring Afghanistan by exporting electricity to this country. In the future, it is planned to build a 500-kilovolt line in Surkhandarya region for increasing its supply to Afghanistan. In addition, JSC “Uzbekenergo” plans to establish cooperation with the energy system of Tajikistan.

At present, Uzbekistan has prepared lines with a voltage of 220 and 500 kV. Projects aimed at using emergency automatics and relay protection are being implemented in the power system of Tajikistan. After the completion of these projects in 2018, it is planned to establish parallel operation of power systems.

Cooperation with the energy system of Turkmenistan is also planned, which will make it possible to use the power system of our country for the transit of Turkmen electricity to other regions.

At the 51st meeting of the Electric Power Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States, held in Tashkent in November this year, the heads of relevant ministries and companies of the CIS countries discussed such relevant issues as development of cooperation and integration ties in the sphere of electricity.

“Uzbekenergo” joint-stock company plans to further strengthen cooperation with the energy systems of the CIS countries, as well as modernize the blocks of Syrdarya TPP and implement other projects aimed at development of the industry.
