Development Partners are ready to support Uzbekistan

The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade acting as an official coordinator of external assistance programs and cooperation with Development Partners held a broad video-conference involving more than 40 representatives of international financial institutions, UN organizations, and USA, Turkey, Korea, Japan and the European Union government international cooperation agencies.

The participants highly appreciated the effectiveness of the Anti-Crisis Program approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated April 22, 2020 No. PP-4691 on Measures to Attract External Assistance Funds to Support the Population, Budget, Basic Infrastructure and Business Entities During the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The agenda of the video-conference included the assessment of economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as supporting measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to mitigate the negative impact of global crisis on the population and economy of the Republic.

The Development Partners noted the approach of the Government of Uzbekistan to the rapid mobilization and use of external assistance to address a wide range of social and economic issues arranged and coordinated with all partners.

The example is the use of accelerated approaches to the purchase of medical equipment and products using global platforms of UN organizations. This approach provides maximum effectiveness of partner support, elimination of duplication and guarantee of purchase transparency.

The representatives of Development Partners, including the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Islamic Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, OPEC Fund, UN, French Development Agency, Japan International Cooperation Agency, the German Development Bank, the United States Agency for International Development, the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination expressed their willingness to comprehensively support an early liquidation of consequences of the events in Bukhara and Syrdarya regions.

This assistance will include grants, loans, humanitarian and technical assistance.
