Thousand-year-old wall paintings found in Akhsikent

Wall paintings of the Karakhanid era were discovered during research conducted by employees of the National Archaeological Center of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan on the territory of the settlement of Akhsikent in Turakurgan district of Namangan region.

Such paintings are found in Fergana Valley for the first time. Murals adorned the walls of majestic architectural structures dating back to the Karakhanid period (IX-XI centuries).

In addition, archaeologists have discovered examples of engraving art carved on alabaster and clay.

A group of restorers is repairing and restoring paintings and decorations.
