Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Production of phosphorus fertilizers in positive territory, nitrogen fertilizers in negative territory. According to the FAO, the consumption of fertilizers in Kazakhstan is at a critically low level. The Energyprom.kz Monitoring Agency informs about it.
In January-July 2021, the country produced 255.2 thousand tons of nitrogen and 118 thousand tons of phosphate fertilizers. At the same time, the production of phosphate fertilizers increased by 4.6%, while the production of nitrogen fertilizers, on the contrary, decreased by 0.3%.
At the end of the first half of the year, domestic producers of phosphate fertilizers provided demand by 99.5% (a year earlier - almost 100%). Imports grew 91.3 times, amounting, however, only 502.2 tons. 99.8 thousand tons of phosphate fertilizers were sold on the domestic market, which is 5.2% more than last year.
The situation is different with nitrogen fertilizers: Kazakhstani producers provided demand only by 46.3% (a year earlier - by 47.4%). Imports grew by 3.1% and amounted to 254 thousand tons, the share of imported nitrogen fertilizers increased from 52.6% to 53.7%. 65.1 thousand tons of nitrogen fertilizers were exported from the country, which is 21% more than last year; at the same time, sales in the domestic market decreased by 1.8%, to 407.4 thousand tons.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, fertilizer consumption in Kazakhstan is low.
So, in 2019, only 1.8 kg of nitrogen fertilizers and slightly less than 1 kg of phosphorus fertilizers were used per 1 hectare of sown area, while in neighboring Uzbekistan 162.6 kg and 50.9 kg, respectively, were used for the same area. In Armenia, 178.4 kg of nitrogen fertilizers were used per hectare, but only 50 grams of phosphorus fertilizers. In Russia, 1 hectare of sown area accounted for 14 kg of nitrogen fertilizers and 4.9 kg of phosphorus fertilizers.
