Border management issues with the EU under discussion

TASHKENT, July 9. /“Dunyo” IA/. Yesterday, a preparatory meeting for launching the next, 10th phase of the European Union's Border Management Program in Central Asia and Afghanistan (BOMCA) has been held via videoconference, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The event was attended by the heads of diplomatic missions of the European Union and Latvia in Uzbekistan, representatives of the consortium for the implementation of BOMCA, Border Troops of the State Security Service, State Customs Committee, Ministries of Internal Affairs and for the Support of Mahalla and Family, the State Plant Quarantine Inspectorate under the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others.

Detailed information was provided about the events planned within the framework of the program with the participation of ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan, which are aimed at promoting sustainable economic development through integrated border management, including support for cross-border cooperation.

The main priorities of BOMCA-10 are increasing the institutional and logistical potential of the involved agencies in the border management process.

It should be noted that from 2003 to 2020, BOMCA assisted the countries of Central Asia in the amount of more than 40 million euros, of which 6.6 million euros were allocated for the implementation of the 9th phase of the program (2015-2020).

BOMCA-10 will be implemented in 2021-2025. The total budget of the program is 21.75 million euros.
