Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan stands for popularization of the cultural diversity of the SCO countries. This was noted by the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Belarus Gayrat Yuldashev at the round table “Opportunities for cooperation between Belarus and the SCO in the format of public diplomacy” at the House of Friendship, BelTA informs.
“In modern society, public diplomacy is of key importance with its inherent openness and impartiality. Scientists, artists, youth and sports organizations take part in it, he said. “That is why the chairmanship of Uzbekistan within the SCO gives priority to the further development of public diplomacy as a mechanism for strengthening mutual understanding and trust between countries.”
The diplomat noted that an important event during the chairmanship of Uzbekistan was the holding in Tashkent in May of this year of the SCO People’s Diplomacy Forum on the theme "People’s Diplomacy - Mutual Understanding for the Sake of Development." The event promoted the cultural diversity and rich potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, including in the tourism industry.
“Uzbekistan, being at the crossroads of several cultures, has managed to create an atmosphere of tolerance, which contributes to the peaceful coexistence of representatives of various peoples and religions, which is very important in the modern world,” the embassy representative said.
He also said that, at the suggestion of Uzbekistan, this year the status of the cultural and tourist capital of the SCO will be granted annually. This is the first time such status will be granted to an Indian city.
