BRUSSELS, November 27. /“Dunyo” IA/. Head of Uzbekistan Mission to the European Union Dilyor Khakimov has held a videoconference with Thomas Gerassimos, Director-General for Taxation and Customs Union (TAXUD) of the European Commission, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects for development of Uzbekistan – European relations.
The European side was informed in detail about the large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, measures to reform the judicial-legal system, ensure the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, strengthen the role of civil society and support media.
Special attention was paid to the ongoing negotiations on the EU – Uzbekistan Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the receipt by Uzbekistan of the status of a beneficiary country “GSP +” and the country’s accession to the WTO.
Thomas Gerassimos highly appreciated the progress made in this process. Expressing hope for their early completion, he noted the readiness of the European Union to provide all-round support to the Uzbek side in these issues.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on a number of joint events in Brussels, including a plan of contacts for the future.
