A branch of Technological University of Malaysia to be opened in Khorezm

The issue of educating a comprehensively developed, patriotic, spiritual and moral and educated young generation meeting the requirements of the times and pace of reforms, as well as worthy to continue the work of our great ancestors, has always been relevant and important for our country. The leadership of our country is taking large-scale measures to train and improve the skills of personnel in specialties in demand in the republic.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The issue of educating a comprehensively developed, patriotic, spiritual and moral and educated young generation meeting the requirements of the times and pace of reforms, as well as worthy to continue the work of our great ancestors, has always been relevant and important for our country. The leadership of our country is taking large-scale measures to train and improve the skills of personnel in specialties in demand in the republic.

To implement these tasks, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumpur is actively working to attract leading Malaysian higher educational institutions to improve the educational sphere of the country’s regions. In this regard, during the visit of the delegation of Khorezm region led by the regional hokim Farhod Ermanov, productive negotiations were held with the leadership of the Technological University of Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia - UTM).

UTM is the highest public education institution founded in 1904. Currently, UTM is ranked 228 and 47th among Asian universities according to the QS Asian University Rankings. The annual number of graduates of this university is more than 12,000 students.

The university has established cooperation with such world-renowned educational institutions as Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge and Tokyo universities, as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

During the meeting with UTM Rector Vahid bin Omar, the Malaysian side was acquainted with the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan in the spheres of education, health, youth policy and socio-economic development. Information was provided on the 13 new higher education institutions opened on the initiative of the leadership of Uzbekistan, including branches of foreign universities.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on development of a “Roadmap” for cooperation between Khorezm regional administration and the UTM in advanced training of faculty and student exchange. An agreement between Khorezm regional administration and UTM on implementation of undergraduate and graduate programs was signed in the areas of engineering, information technology, basic sciences and management on the basis of franchising model with the subsequent opening of a branch of UTM Khorezm region.

According to the UTM rector, the establishment of cooperation between universities of two countries has great potential and in the foreseeable future, the Malaysian side is ready to expand the range of this interaction by increasing the list of trained specialists in the Uzbek-Malaysian department.
