Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister and EBRD’s Acting President discuss issues of enhancing collaboration

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov has held talks with EBRD’s Acting President Jürgen Rigterink, via videoconference.

The parties discussed issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD.
 
According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, Jürgen Rigterink highly appreciated the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and confirmed the EBRD’s intention to continue financial, investment and consulting support of the economic transformation process in the country.
 
EBRD’s Acting President informed the Uzbek side of the approval by the Board of Directors of financing the Thermal Power Plants JSC in the amount of 88.6 million euros to ensure the uninterrupted operation of energy generating enterprises of Uzbekistan in autumn/winter period.
 
It was also noted that the EBRD will support direct investments of Masdar (UAE) in the project “Construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic power plant in Karmana district of Navoi region” by providing financing to the UAE company in the amount of million.
 
The parties also discussed issues of expanding cooperation in attracting investments for the implementation of promising investment projects on the basis of public-private partnership in Uzbekistan in energy, healthcare and infrastructure development.
 
The EBRD’s readiness to expand the program of financial support for small and medium-sized businesses was emphasized, which will create additional opportunities for creating new jobs and improving the welfare of the country’s population.
