On May 7, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade held a video conference involving Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov and Adviser for Commerce, Textile Industry and Investment of Abdul Razak Dawood.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current state and prospects for bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic, investment, transport and logistics areas, as well as measures taken by the governments of both countries to mitigate economic consequences of the global crisis due to pandemic.
They considered prospects for investment cooperation in such areas as agriculture, food and textile industries, pharmaceuticals, production of building materials and the development of tourism infrastructure.
They noted prerequisites for joint development of certain investment projects to strengthen industrial cooperation in priority areas.
The parties emphasized the role of the Uzbek-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, as well as the Uzbek-Pakistan Business Council as effective platforms for joint discussion of bilateral cooperation. the also negotiated on practical arrangements associated with these events in the second half of 2020.
The parties praised the prospects to increase mutual commerce, including through mutual deliveries of high-quality products demanded in both counties.
They noted the need to take prompt measures to enhance and expand cooperation within transportation and logistics through full use of existing and launch of new cargo routes between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
The negotiations resulted in agreement to create a joint Working Group involving deputy heads of foreign economic departments of two countries to coordinate the deepening of cooperation in commerce, investments and transportation hereunder.
