UNWTO Secretary-General: Uzbekistan continues to invest in tourism during the pandemic

MADRID, November 16. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Spain Jakhongir Ganiyev has taken part in a virtual meeting of the UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili with diplomatic corps accredited in Madrid, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

At the event, the UNWTO Secretary-General acquainted the participants with the organization’s activities to support the global tourism industry during a pandemic, in particular the projects being implemented in the member states, the development of domestic tourism during a pandemic, developed by interactive tools (Global Tourism Dashboard, Tourism Recovery Tracker and others).

In his speech, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan informed the meeting participants in detail about the reforms carried out by the country’s leadership in tourism and measures that are being taken in Uzbekistan to support the private sector during the pandemic.

It was emphasized that the nomination by Uzbekistan of its candidacy for membership in the UNWTO Executive Council for 2021-2025 and the proposal to hold the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in 2023 in Samarkand are ongoing transformations.

Zurab Pololikashvili, welcoming the nomination of Uzbekistan, noted that the country is one of the most active members of the organization and today is one of the few states that continue to invest in tourism infrastructure during the pandemic.
