A press conference for local and foreign mass media was held within the framework of the First International Forum on Ziyorat (Pilgrimage) Tourism.
It was noted that about 120 representatives from 34 countries arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the forum.
Deputy Khokim of Bukhara region on Tourism Issues B.Shakhriyorov briefed the guests about tourism activities implemented in Uzbekistan in 2018. According to him, about 2.5 million tourists visited Bukhara last year. Over 5 million tourists visited Uzbekistan in 2018. This is two times more than in 2017.
Participants of the press conference asked why was Bukhara selected for holding the Forum, other regions of Uzbekistan could also become the candidates for hosting the forum. The First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development U.Kasimkhojayev answered that this decision was taken as the result of recognition of Bukhara by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) as Islamic Culture Capital in 2020. In the future, the Forum is expected to be held in Samarkand and Khorezm regions.
