The capital of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, has hosted the Asian Taekwondo Championship WTF, in which 564 contenders from 34 countries of the continent fought for the victory. Of the 14 sportsmen of Uzbekistan, seven represented the sports club of the Ministry of Defense, six of them returned home with medals, the press service of the military department said.
In the weight category up to 74 kg, the title of Asian champion is secured by the serviceman of the Armed Forces Nikita Rafalovich.
In the weight category up to 67 kg among women, Nigora Tursunkulova, also representative of the Armed Forces, took the highest step of the podium. At the 2016 Olympics in Brazil she was recognized as the most promising young sportswoman of the tournament, which she has proved in Vietnam.
Luck turned from the world champion in the version of WTF, the winner of a number of international tournaments, private contractor Dmitry Shokin. In weight over 87 kg, this talented athlete was content only with a bronze medal.
A significant contribution to the success of the national team was made by the owners of the bronze medals of the championship, servicemen of the Armed Forces Maxim Rafalovich (80 kg), Sardor Toirov (63 kg) and Niyoz Pulatov (58 kg).
