World Forum on Youth Rights to be held in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will host the World Conference on Youth Rights on 12-13 August 2021. The initiative to hold it was put forward by the President of the country Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The global forum will be held in a hybrid format, with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, UN Secretary General’s Envoy for Youth Affairs Jayatma Vikramanayake, Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary General Martin Chungong, OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmidt and other leaders expected international structures.

More than 500 representatives from more than 30 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the World Conference on Youth Rights “Engaging Youth in Global Action”.

The "Convention on the Rights of Youth" is currently in the process of being developed, which is also being created on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, which was voiced at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

During the Tashkent forum, the participation of young people in the development of their countries in the context of the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable youth groups will be considered; measures to support young people in access to quality education, productive employment; participation of young people in making decisions that affect their lives.

Participants will discuss how to improve existing international mechanisms for the protection and promotion of youth rights, so that young people can fully exercise their rights without any discrimination.
