Tashkent hosts International Forum on Economic Empowerment of Women for Sustainable Development in Central Asia and Afghanistan

TASHKENT, June 15. /“Dunyo” IA/. On June 15-16, Tashkent hosted International Forum on “Economic Empowerment of Women for Sustainable Development in Central Asia and Afghanistan”, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The forum was organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, the UNDP, the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media in Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, representatives of both chambers of parliament, public and political circles and heads of embassies accredited in Uzbekistan.

The participants of the forum exchanged views and best practices on the development of women’s entrepreneurship, the establishment of direct contacts, identifying the most promising areas of interaction and development of collaboration and business partnerships between women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The forum participants called for the development of effective ways to fully realize the creative, entrepreneurial potential of women in Central Asia, further continuation of efforts to enhance the opportunities for women and girls in the entrepreneurial sphere, improve the legislative framework and economic policy to encourage women’s participation in the labor market, their promotion in the state and private sectors, eliminating discrimination in employment.

Mrs. Tanzila Narbayeva noted that the state is taking measures to increase the activity of women in all spheres of the country’s economic, political and social life, provide them with education, professional skills and employment, and further support entrepreneurial initiatives.

Following the forum, the Joint Statement of the Dialogue of Women Leaders from Central Asian states and the roadmap of cooperation in sustainable development between women entrepreneurs of Central Asia and Afghanistan were adopted.
